Pingtung’s Civic Park

Spanning approximately 20 hectares, Pingtung County Citizens Park (also known as the Akau 1909 Green Riverside Park) is the largest park in Pingtung City. Formerly the site of the Pingtung Sugar Factory and Pingtung Pulp Mill, this area underwent a meticulous five-year revitalization spearheaded by the county government, successfully transforming industrial ruins into a modern eco-park.

The park anchors its identity on two major themes: the "Sheshe River Waterfront Ecology" and the "Revitalization of the Historic Pulp Mill." Beyond offering a refreshing recreational space, the park serves an educational purpose, introducing visitors to Pingtung’s industrial history and waterfront conservation concepts. As a multifunctional, hybrid space, it stands as Taiwan's very first park to seamlessly integrate industrial heritage, waterfront corridors, and greenbelts into a visionary public landscape.
