Sichongxi Hot Spring
Developed during the Japanese colonial period, Sichongxi became widely famous after Prince Takamatsu, the younger brother of Emperor Showa, and his wife visited for their honeymoon. During the Japanese colonial era, Sichongxi Hot Spring was ranked alongside Beitou, Caoshan (Yangmingshan), and Guanziling as one of the four famous hot springs of Taiwan. In 1950, Sichongxi was renamed Wenquan Village. The area later declined for several decades due to a notorious reputation for overcharging tourists. Starting in 2015, the Pingtung County Government invested heavily, incorporating Japanese shrine elements and renovating the Sichongxi Hot Spring Park. Since 2017, the annual Hot Spring Season has been held every November, attracting large crowds with artistic light displays. According to data from the OpView social media sentiment database, it is considered one of Taiwan's most well-known hot springs.
